OK, Sam started a thread about what else you've made.

I mentioned the Acoustic Les Paul which I built before Sam pointed the way towards this fine place

and SOME of you seemed not to understand the concept.......

Yes it IS (vaguely) Les Paul shaped.

Yes it IS acoustic!!!!

The body is a clamshell made of a 40 yearlod mahogany bench from a school science room and a big old plank of beech

the neck is a mahogany sycamore lam tenoned in with epoxy (scarfed headstock)

The soundhole is a series of slots cut at 90 degrees to eachother 2/3 of the thickness of the top....
giving the lattice effect.....

SOME of the carving is of a decent quality!!!

(some isn't but I wont show that!!!)

Theres a piezo under the saddle which runs to this badly fitted preamp. I carved this top edge round after I'd been playing it for a month. Strumming over that sharp edge hurt a bit!!

And the headstock. Yes, I know the tuners are too close, too high, but I drilled the holes before I finished the back of the neck. (I'm learning here folks, learning!!)

the Celtic cross TRC is because I'm in Ireland and I'm a Christian.

It was my second build, and my first acoustic instrument.

The REASON for it was, Playing in church, I stand to the left of my lovely Mrs who sings. We share song sheets so we have to stand that way. My Turner acoustic is REALLY loud and she was being desfened by it. I needed a quiet acoustic that could be amped through the PA.

This was the result.

Now that I've learned a LOT from here & other places, I'd maybe do some things differently, and I'd definitely spend more time on the finishing off & tidying up,
BUT I LIKE IT, SO THERE!!!!

Martin, I think its a cool concept. How does it sound? What would you do different if you were to make another one?

Martin, that is very strange. I really like the creativity of it, and I'm sure no one has another like it. I like it. Does it sound anything like an acoustic or is it more like a hollow body electric in tone?

I was in a music store recently and they had an acoustic Les Paul. I didn't look at real close because I was there for another reason.

/\ "Outside of the box"? That's a common concept that can only be attributed to Martin....

I didn't know how rare ALPs were until I REALLY started looking at all the guitars in the stores., not just the acoustics...

If I were to make one, I'd make the body a little bigger, thus more space in the chamber..perhaps a grilled soundport in the side top bout too...Sam Price38977.4521180556

OK, "abuse recieved" was tongue in cheek, sorry if anyone was offended or really thought that I was.....

If I were to do it again?

I'd arch the top properly, and not have just the tiny little teardrop shaped soundboard.

I'd slender down the neck a little

I'd put the same headstock as my other builds have, and sort out the tuner layout.

I'd spend a LOAD more time on the shaping and finish.

Don't think I'd go to a full archtop wih bent sides. I like the fact that this is as ogh as a tough thing with a leather jacket and a flick knife.

I'd MAYBE go for a LR Baggs Tunomatic piezo bridge rather than the bone saddle & piezo.

Oh yes, and I'd get the dimensions sirht so it'd fit in a LP shaped case
